Barrouil is an old vineyard estate house, standing on a hill between Castillon-la-Bataille and Sauveterre-de-Guyenne, in the heart of the historic region of Entre-Deux-Mers. This 19th century proprietor’s house, typical of the Bordeaux wine area, has been lovingly restored to offer contemporary comfort in its original setting.
The property is surrounded by vineyards, lending it a peaceful atmosphere. In the grounds, you can sit in the shade of hundred year-old lime trees or, alongside the orchard you can sit on the wide terrace, looking towards the valley of the Dordogne where, in good weather, breakfast is served. You might even see some deer gazing at you!
The House shows two aspects. On the North side, the old rubble walls and staircase tower give the feeling of a country gentleman’s residence. On the South side, the warmth of the sun is felt on the pale stone walls.
The grand exterior may seem intimidating, but when you open the door you will be drawn into a warm and friendly mood. To the right is a sitting-room reserved for guests which will surprise and delight you. This room, with its angels painted on the ceiling, is ideal for relaxation and reading.
The dining-room retains its old flagstones and a broad stone hearth, a genuine item from the region. A vine-log fire will welcome you on a winter evening. The scent of the wood-smoke gives a matchless taste to roasted meat...

The cuisine includes many traditional recipes handed down from generation to generation in the South West and South East. On request, we can cater for vegetarians. We only use fresh produce from local markets, most of which is organically grown (dinner by appointment only).
